90 to 45 minutes

For the 2014-2015 school year, I will be teaching 8th grade for ONLY 45 minutes per class versus the 90 minute block scheduling class.

Breakdown of  my 90 minute class
Warm-up: 6 minutes
Anticipatory Set: 6 minutes
Direct and Guided: 20 minutes
Independent: 15 minutes
Collaborative Groups: 35 minutes
Exit Ticket: 8 minutes

Although 90 minutes is a very long time, it was enough time to make sure the students grasped the concept learned for the day, and I had time for questions and uncertainties any students had with the objective.

On the other hand, a 45 minute class is very short, sweet, and super speedy.

Breakdown for a 45 minute class
Warm-up: 3 minutes
Anticipatory Set: 3 minutes
Guided: 10 minutes
Collaborative Groups: 25 minutes
Exit Ticket:  4 minutes

I feel like 45 minutes does not give the students enough time to review the warm-up, take notes, and understand the objective. So, I am seeking advice and tips from teachers who have taught a 45 minute class.

How do you teach a 45 minute class and cover all the information the students need to know?

Do you have a breakdown of a 45 minute class that you could share?
