90 to 45 minutes

For the 2014-2015 school year, I will be teaching 8th grade for ONLY 45 minutes per class versus the 90 minute block scheduling class.   Breakdown of  my 90 minute class Warm-up: 6 minutes Anticipatory Set: 6 minutes Direct and Guided: 20 minutes Independent: 15 minutes Collaborative Groups: 35 minutes Exit Ticket: 8 minutes Although 90 minutes is a very long time, it was enough time to make sure the students grasped the concept learned for the day, and I had time for questions and uncertainties any students had with the objective.  On the other hand, a 45 minute class is very short, sweet, and super speedy.  Breakdown for a 45 minute class Warm-up: 3 minutes Anticipatory Set: 3 minutes Guided: 10 minutes Collaborative Groups: 25 minutes Exit Ticket:  4 minutes  I feel like 45 minutes does not give the students enough time to review the warm-up, take notes, and understand the objective.
